Every Percentage On This Site Comes From Somewhere

Every site that puts a number next to a game owes you an answer to one question: where did the number come from? Most of them dodge. They wave at "power ratings" or "advanced metrics" and hope you nod along. We're not doing that. You clicked on a Cony vs. Bangor softball game last Tuesday, saw "Cony 71 percent, projected 8-5," and you deserve to know who's behind the curtain.

That's GameIQ. It's Analytics207's prediction layer, and it touches every win probability, projected final score, and bracket pick we publish. Not "most." Every.

Maine high school sports runs roughly 750 games every spring across baseball, softball, and boys lacrosse alone. Every one of them gets a GameIQ pick before first pitch or first faceoff. Then, after the game, GameIQ has to answer for that pick. We grade ourselves nightly. Publicly. With receipts.

Here's what GameIQ actually does, what it eats, and how often it's right. We're going to brag a little. The math earned it.

What GameIQ Spits Out

For every upcoming Maine HS game, GameIQ produces four things:

A win probability. A clean percentage for each side. Cony 71, Bangor 29. That's the headline number.

A predicted final score. Not just a margin. An actual home score and an actual away score. Cony 8, Bangor 5. You can argue with it. That's the point.

A predicted margin. How many runs, goals, or points the favorite is expected to win by. Same information, different framing, useful for bracket play.

A confidence indicator. How strongly GameIQ believes its own pick. A 51-49 coin flip is a shrug. A 90-10 is GameIQ planting a flag. When you see a tight game on the Slate, confidence tells you whether the math is sweating or grinning.

That's the output. Four numbers per game, every game, all spring.

What It Eats

Here's where most explainers turn into a chalkboard scene from a bad sports movie. We're not doing that either, partly because the exact math is ours and stays ours, and partly because you don't actually need it. You need to know GameIQ is digesting the right things. It is.

At a high level, GameIQ chews on:

Every final score from every played game. Not box-score vibes. Actual results.

The quality of each team's opponents. A Class A team beating an undefeated powerhouse counts very differently than a Class A team beating a winless one. GameIQ knows the difference. Your local paper's "Team X is 10-2!" headline does not.

Schedule difficulty across the full season. A 12-2 record against a soft slate and a 9-5 record against a meat grinder are not the same thing, and GameIQ refuses to pretend they are.

Recent form. A team that ripped off six straight in late May is a different team than the one that lost two in April. Late-season results carry more weight than early-season ones. How much more? Not your business. That's the proprietary part. But the principle is right and the receipts back it up.

That's the menu. No weather, no horoscopes, no vibes. Final scores, opponent quality, schedule difficulty, recent form.

The Receipts

Now the fun part. Here's how often GameIQ is right, on actual played Maine HS games, as of June 1, 2026.

Softball: 87.1 percent winners called correct. That's 602-89 across 691 played games. Brier score 0.118.

Baseball: 84.7 percent winners called correct across 672 played games. Brier in the 0.13 range.

Boys lacrosse: 80.7 percent winners called correct across 254 played games.

Let me put those numbers in places you'll feel them.

A typical 5-day Maine weather forecast lands around 80 percent accurate. Softball GameIQ is 7 points better than your weather app, on what is unambiguously a harder prediction problem. Storms don't have a bullpen.

A profitable NFL handicapper, the guy who quits his day job, needs to hit 52.4 percent to clear the vig. GameIQ is sitting 30 to 35 points clear of that bar across all three spring sports. We are not handicappers. We are not telling you to bet on high school games. We are telling you the math is, by professional gambling standards, absurd.

A coin flip is 50 percent. Drawing a heart from a shuffled deck is 25 percent. Naming a Maine HS softball winner via GameIQ is 87 percent. Pick your favorite party trick. Ours is better.

And the Brier score, the metric that punishes you for being confidently wrong: top professional sports forecasters typically sit at 0.18 to 0.22. FiveThirtyEight's best election forecasts have hit 0.10 to 0.13. Softball GameIQ's 0.118 sits inside that elite band. On Maine high school games. Played in 38-degree rain. In Presque Isle. On a Tuesday.

We grade every pick after the game, publicly, on the Report Card. Brier score, mean error on margin, hit rate within 5 points, the full ledger. Anyone can audit us any night. Most prediction sites would rather you didn't notice their misses. We hang ours on the wall.

Where You See It

GameIQ isn't a hidden engine. It's the engine, and it shows up everywhere on the site:

The Slate has a GameIQ win percentage and projected final score next to every upcoming game.

Bracketology runs every projected matchup, from prelims through the state final, through GameIQ. The state-title odds you see there come from running the bracket forward many, many times and counting who's still standing at the end. That's also where Heal Points feed in for seeding.

The Report Card, as covered above, is the receipts page.

Matchup Lab lets you pick any two Maine HS teams, in-season or hypothetical, and get back the GameIQ result. Win probability, projected score, margin, confidence. Yes, you can pit a 2014 squad against this year's group. Yes, people do.

The home page Spotlight uses GameIQ-driven inputs to surface streak-busters, recent peakers, and state-leading marks. It also plays nice with PIR and the Trophy Room when individual hardware is on the line.

If a number on this site looks like a prediction, GameIQ made it.

When It Updates

Every night. The gremlins work the night shift and enter every new played game, every score, every shift in opponent quality, every recent-form change, and re-feeds the whole system. The percentages you see on the Slate this morning are the percentages after last night's run. Tomorrow morning's will be different, because last night's games happened.

GameIQ does not coast on Monday's opinion through Thursday. That is exactly the kind of thing that kills accuracy, and we refuse to do it.

Your Unfair Advantage At The Cookout

Here's the part where we stop being humble. You are reading this site because somewhere in your life there is a regional final coming up, a kid you want to scout, a bracket pool you want to win, or an uncle at the cookout who needs to be quiet. GameIQ is the unfair advantage. The math is calibrated, the receipts are public, and the numbers update every night while you sleep.

We built this for Maine. Use it.

Wicked good math. That's the whole pitch.
