Twelve prelim games across two genders, three classes apiece, and a couple of upsets to keep the lights on.
The first round of lacrosse playoffs delivered more drama than the chalk would suggest. Bonny Eagle stunned Edward Little 8 to 7 in Class A Boys. Kennebunk took out Freeport 8 to 6 in Class B Boys. Mount Ararat outlasted Westbrook 8 to 5 in Class B Girls, the only upset in the otherwise chalky girls bracket. Everywhere else, top seeds played their part: Falmouth, Cheverus, Windham, and Brunswick all posted double digit margins.
Our gremlins were up before sunrise grabbing this stuff. They missed one game on the first run (sorry, Houlton, sorry, Dexter). Class A Boys: #1 Falmouth over #9 Hampden / Bangor at 61.5%. #2 Thornton Academy over #7 Noble at 61.9%. #3 Yarmouth over #6 Scarborough at 61.2%. #4 Deering over #12 Bonny Eagle at 61.7%, the upset is in the win column, the QF is the next test.
Class B Boys: #1 Greely over #8 Brunswick at 58.5%. #4 Marshwood over #5 Mount Ararat at 60.4%. #2 Messalonskee over #10 Kennebunk at 61.0%.
Class C Boys: #1 North Yarmouth Academy over #8 Lawrence / Winslow / Skowhegan at 66.5%, the highest single QF confidence in C Boys.
Class A Girls: #1 Kennebunk over #8 Bangor / John Bapst / Orono at 64.1%. #3 Windham over #6 Scarborough at 64.4%.
Class B Girls: #1 Greely over #8 Gardiner / Hall-Dale at 60.9%. #4 Cony over #5 Brunswick at 56.2%, Brunswick just put 18 on Mt. Blue so this is the closest QF in girls B.
Class C Girls: #1 Maranacook / Winthrop over #8 Lincoln Academy at 70.9%, the highest girls C QF confidence.
How the GameIQ season actually went
Final regular season lacrosse accuracy: 83.1%. That is 574 right out of 691 played games, with an average margin error under eight goals. Lacrosse swings hard inside the run of play, so an 83 percent straight up call rate is the kind of number PIR and DSI earn together over the full schedule, not by getting lucky on the easy ones.
