Hampden Academy Takes Northern Maine Class A Boys Title With 63 Points
Hampden Academy won the Boys Class A team title at the Northern Maine Class A Regional Championship on October 24, scoring 63 points. Camden Hills finished second at 82.
Messalonskee was right behind in third with 86, so the race for second came down to four points. Mount Blue placed fourth with 99, and Oxford Hills rounded out the top five at 152.
Hampden won it as a pack. Its scoring five averaged 17:27.8 on the course, and only 0:37 separated its first scorer from its fifth. That is five runners who apparently agreed to carpool across the finish line.
The fastest winning time of the Boys day belonged to Samuel Bergmark of Bangor, who ran 15:51.07 and finished 18.9 seconds clear of second place in his race.
The course was generous all around. Fifty three Boys runners set a season personal record, which makes for a lot of good bus rides home in late October.
