Freeport played nine games across its fall programs last week and lost none of them, and it came out the other side holding the No. 1 Heal Points seed in three different sports.
Field hockey is 4-0 and seeded first in Class B. Football is 2-0 and first in Class D South. The boys soccer team is 2-0-1 and first in Class B. Four other schools are carrying two top seeds at the moment. Fort Kent and Mount Abram hold both soccer seeds in Class C, Bucksport has boys soccer and football, and Gorham has boys soccer and volleyball. Freeport is the only school in the state carrying three.
The field hockey team was the loudest of the three. It beat GNG/NYA 8-1 on Tuesday and Fryeburg Academy 9-1 on Thursday, and it has outscored four opponents 28-5. The result that says more came Friday at Winthrop/Maranacook, a Class C team seeded fifth in its own class, where Freeport won 2-1. That was the only game all week GameIQ picked against Freeport, giving them a 38 percent chance.
Football had its own tight Friday. After handling Mattanawcook/Lee/PVHS 42-6 on Saturday, Freeport got past Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall-Dale 29-28. Both opponents came in seeded in the top four of their regions and both left at 1-1.
The soccer results are the quiet reason there is no loss in the week. The boys drew 1-1 at Cape Elizabeth on Saturday, taking a point off the team seeded second in Class B, then won 5-0 at Gray-New Gloucester on Tuesday. The girls beat Gray-New Gloucester 4-0 the same afternoon and are 2-0, seeded fifth in Class B.
Freeport's volleyball players compete as North Yarmouth/Freeport, a separate co-op program that is not part of that run. It is 1-1 after losing to Massabesic/Sacopee on Tuesday.
Cape Elizabeth comes to Freeport on September 15 for the boys soccer rematch. Field hockey hosts York, 1-1 and seeded seventh in Class B, on September 18, and football is at Poland the same night.
