If you have never been to Class C states, you should go once. The crowd is smaller than A or B. The schools you have never heard of show up with two athletes and a duffel bag. Half the parents drove four hours from The County. Half the kids work summer jobs at the same lobster pound. And the racing is some of the cleanest, most committed running you will see all year.
The Distance Triple Crown
William Morris from Dirigo ran the boys 800 in 1:57.11, the boys 1600 in 4:29.76, and the boys 3200 in 9:52.46. Three distance events. Three gold medals. One day.
You don't see this. Distance running at the HS state meet level is brutally specialized because the 800 is anaerobic, the 1600 is mixed, and the 3200 is aerobic. They use different pacing instincts and different muscle systems. The kid who wins all three is built different, and Morris is built different. We just told you the best name in Class C boys distance this season. Remember it.
The Long Bus Home: Houlton/GHCA's 4x800 Gold
The boys 4x800 meter relay went to Houlton/GHCA in 8:29.07.
The County drove down for the meet. The County drove back up to The County after the meet. Somewhere in between, four boys from the far end of Maine took a stopwatch apart on the Winslow High School track and built a season ending memory their school will be replaying for years. There is nothing about a 4x800 relay that is easy. There is nothing about a 4x800 relay won by a co-op from Houlton that is anything other than wonderful.
The Three Event Champion Out of Orono
Easnadh Nobel To'Olo from Orono won the girls 100 hurdles in 15.58, won the girls pole vault at 10 feet flat, and won the girls triple jump at 36 feet 3. Hurdles plus vault plus triple jump is a combination that does not happen. Hurdles is reactive and rhythmic. Pole vault is technical and explosive. Triple jump is brute speed plus elastic legs. To'Olo cleaned all three. Her name should be in every preseason write up about Class C 2027.
Wells' Sprint Double
Aaron Adams from Wells won the boys 100 in 11.49 and the boys 200 in 23.14. His 100 has dropped through the year on a clean line. His 200 has done the same. The State final was the closing argument and he delivered it.
Traip Academy's Girls Sprint Double
Jacqueline Diallo from Traip Academy won the girls 100 in 12.45 and the girls 200 in 25.53. Two golds. Diallo had been one of the steadiest sprinters in Class C all spring and the State final put her at the front of the field for both races.
The Hurdles Out of Winslow
Hassan Hobbi from Winslow took the boys 110 hurdles in 15.11. Jesse Booker from Bangor Christian took the boys 300 hurdles in 40.39. Mary Allen from Bangor Christian took the girls 300 hurdles in 46.37.
The Boys 400 and the Girls Distance
Wyatt Richardson from George Stevens took the boys 400 in 52.38. Sam Reidy from Orono took the girls 800 in 2:27.49. Bryanna Hagopian from Madison took the girls 1600 in 5:08.51. Maya Boyington from Orono took the girls 3200 in 11:19.31. Ripley King-Ofsiany from George Stevens took the girls 400 in 58.36.
The Race Walk
David Brewer from Orono took the boys 1600 race walk in 7:19.71. Branwyn Obptande from Lisbon took the girls 1600 race walk in 8:28.40.
The Jumps
Ethan Walsh from Fort Fairfield took the boys high jump at 6 feet 6. Reece Renwick from George Stevens took the boys long jump at 20 feet 5. Damiair Miller from Dexter Regional took the boys triple jump at 42 feet 9. Aven Laplant from Bucksport took the boys pole vault at 12 feet 6.
On the girls side, Evelyn Stevenson from Maranacook took the high jump at 5 feet 3. Audrey O'Meara from Seacoast Christian took the long jump at 17 feet 7. (Nobel To'Olo's triple jump and pole vault already mentioned above.)
The Throws
Brady Jerome from Dexter Regional took the boys shot put at 47 feet 2. Skye Burgoyne from Madison took the boys discus at 137 feet flat. Jacob Feith from Winthrop took the boys javelin at 165 feet flat.
On the girls side, Ava Goulette from Piscataquis took both the shot put at 36 feet 4 AND the discus at 107 feet 4. Jillian Smith from Lisbon took the javelin at 113 feet 1. Goulette gave Class C a fourth multi event headline.
The Relays Beyond Houlton/GHCA
Narraguagus took the boys 4x100 in 46.07. Winthrop took the boys 4x400 in 3:35.58. Boothbay/Wiscasset took the girls 4x100 in 52.26. Bucksport took the girls 4x400 in 4:19.70. Orono took the girls 4x800 in 10:23.43.
Class C's Trophy Wall
When the dust cleared on Class C: 38 gold medals across boys and girls (32 individual plus six relays). The schools with at least one champion: Dirigo, Orono, Houlton/GHCA, Wells, Traip Academy, Winslow, Piscataquis, Bangor Christian, Madison, Bucksport, Lisbon, George Stevens, Dexter Regional, Fort Fairfield, Maranacook, Seacoast Christian, Winthrop, Narraguagus, Boothbay/Wiscasset.
William Morris distance tripled. Easnadh Nobel To'Olo three golded across three event categories. Houlton/GHCA brought home the 4x800. Aaron Adams and Jacqueline Diallo doubled the sprints. Ava Goulette doubled the throws. Class C 2026 was loud and weird and beautiful.
