Mason Henderson of Leavitt won the boys 100, 200 and 400 at the Class B outdoor track and field state championship at Freeport High School on Saturday, June 6. He ran 10.93 in the 100, 22.17 in the 200 and 49.71 in the 400.
Alex Gilbert of Freeport won both boys distance races on his home track, the 1600 in 4:29.51 and the 3200 in 9:49.25. Yarmouth's Ella Cameron won the girls discus at 114 feet 5 inches and the javelin at 121 feet 1.
Yarmouth's afternoon
Cameron's two throws were part of a big day for the Yarmouth girls. Miah Jacobs won the 100 in 12.20, Hayden Aines won the long jump at 18 feet 3 and the 4x100 relay won in 49.30.
Boys
Gavin Rogers of John Bapst won the 800 in 1:57.58 and Luke Blair of Erskine the 1600 race walk in 8:04.05. Jackson Walker of York won the 110 hurdles in 15.75 and Kannon Crocker of Greely the 300 hurdles in 40.15.
Boris Felix of Ellsworth won the high jump at 6 feet 2, Shaquan Fellows of Cony the long jump at 20 feet 10, Elijah Pelkey of Erskine the triple jump at 43 feet 2 and Patrick Saltysiak of Mt. Desert Island the pole vault at 13 feet 6. William Fagan of York won the shot put at 53 feet 4, Joseph Bennett of Mt. Desert Island the discus at 158 feet 5 and Minh Ha of Belfast the javelin at 164 feet 6.
Cony won two relays, the 4x100 in 43.53 and the 4x400 in 3:30.41. John Bapst won the 4x800 in 8:21.56.
Girls
Greely won three events. Rowan Barry took the 800 in 2:17.48, Victoria Zandan the 300 hurdles in 45.85 and Piper Higgins the pole vault at 10 feet.
Seneca Haney of Mt. Desert Island won the 200 in 24.74 and Sovie Rau of Erskine the 400 in 57.05. Zoe Carroll of York won the 1600 in 4:58.41, Karen Higgins of Lincoln Academy the 3200 in 11:07.45 and Natalie Grant of Gardiner the 1600 race walk in 8:05.06. Caitlin Jenkins of Ellsworth won the 100 hurdles in 15.35.
Elyannah Briggs of Old Town won the high jump at 5 feet 6 and Daijha Grant of Hermon the triple jump at 37 feet 9. Angelina Boisvert of Nokomis won the shot put at 38 feet 7. Mt. Desert Island won the 4x400 in 4:04.39 and Freeport the 4x800 in 9:53.82.
By the numbers
Thirty-eight gold medals, 32 individual and six relays. Sixteen schools had at least one champion: Leavitt, Freeport, Yarmouth, Mt. Desert Island, Greely, York, Ellsworth, Cony, Hermon, Erskine, Lincoln Academy, Old Town, John Bapst, Gardiner, Belfast and Nokomis. Class A ran the same day in Bangor and Class C at Winslow.
