Class B is the middle of the Maine HS world. The schools are big enough to have a real program and small enough that one transformative junior can flip the whole class. This year Class B had three or four such juniors and all of them showed up in Freeport, where the meet was held on June 6, 2026.
The Sprint Triple Crown You Will Tell Your Kids About
Mason Henderson from Leavitt won the boys 100 in 10.93, the boys 200 in 22.17, and the boys 400 in 49.71. Three sprints. Three gold medals. One Saturday.
You do not see this. The 100 is acceleration. The 200 is pure speed plus a turn. The 400 is the worst event humans have ever invented because it is the perfect length to make your legs hate you. Henderson swept all three. That is a season-defining trip to Freeport and a sentence Leavitt's track coach will repeat into a microphone every September.
Freeport's Distance Double
Alex Gilbert from Freeport won the boys 1600 in 4:29.51 and the boys 3200 in 9:49.25. The 1600 is mixed. The 3200 is aerobic. The athletes who win both in the same day are rare and Gilbert just put his name on that list for Class B.
Yarmouth's Quiet Throws Domination
Ella Cameron from Yarmouth took the girls discus at 114 feet 5 AND the girls javelin at 121 feet 1. Throws double. One kid. One school.
Yarmouth as a school also took the girls 4x100 relay in 49.30, the girls long jump with Hayden Aines at 18 feet 3, and the girls 100 with Miah Jacobs in 12.20. Six gold medals between Cameron, Aines, Jacobs, and the relay quartet. Yarmouth had a meet.
The Boys Distance Card Beyond Gilbert
Gavin Rogers from John Bapst took the boys 800 in 1:57.58. Luke Blair from Erskine took the boys 1600 race walk in 8:04.05. John Bapst also took the boys 4x800 in 8:21.56. Distance hardware spread across Freeport, John Bapst, and Erskine.
The Hurdles
Jackson Walker from York took the boys 110 hurdles in 15.75. Kannon Crocker from Greely took the boys 300 hurdles in 40.15. Caitlin Jenkins from Ellsworth took the girls 100 hurdles in 15.35. Victoria Zandan from Greely took the girls 300 hurdles in 45.85.
The Girls Distance Card
Rowan Barry from Greely took the girls 800 in 2:17.48. Zoe Carroll from York took the girls 1600 in 4:58.41. Karen Higgins from Lincoln Academy took the girls 3200 in 11:07.45. Natalie Grant from Gardiner took the girls 1600 race walk in 8:05.06. Freeport took the girls 4x800 in 9:53.82.
The Girls Sprints Beyond Yarmouth
Seneca Haney from Mt. Desert Island took the girls 200 in 24.74. Sovie Rau from Erskine took the girls 400 in 57.05.
The Jumps
Boris Felix from Ellsworth took the boys high jump at 6 feet 2. Shaquan Fellows from Cony took the boys long jump at 20 feet 10. Elijah Pelkey from Erskine took the boys triple jump at 43 feet 2. Patrick Saltysiak from Mt. Desert Island took the boys pole vault at 13 feet 6.
On the girls side, Elyannah Briggs from Old Town took the high jump at 5 feet 6. Daijha Grant from Hermon took the triple jump at 37 feet 9. Piper Higgins from Greely took the pole vault at 10 feet flat.
The Throws Beyond Cameron
William Fagan from York took the boys shot put at 53 feet 4. Joseph Bennett from Mt. Desert Island took the boys discus at 158 feet 5. Minh Ha from Belfast took the boys javelin at 164 feet 6. Angelina Boisvert from Nokomis took the girls shot put at 38 feet 7.
The Relays Beyond Yarmouth
Cony swept the boys 4x100 in 43.53 AND the boys 4x400 in 3:30.41. John Bapst took the boys 4x800 in 8:21.56. Mt. Desert Island took the girls 4x400 in 4:04.39. Freeport took the girls 4x800 in 9:53.82.
Class B's Trophy Wall
When you total it up: 38 gold medals across boys and girls (32 individual plus six relays). The schools that walked out of Freeport with at least one champion: Leavitt, Freeport, Yarmouth, Mt. Desert Island, Greely, York, Ellsworth, Cony, Hermon, Erskine, Lincoln Academy, Old Town, John Bapst, Gardiner, Belfast, Nokomis.
