The Cutline Is Live and It Does Not Care About Your Feelings

There Is Now a Page That Tells You Exactly How Close You Are to States

We just launched The Cutline, and it is exactly what it sounds like. A page that takes the official MPA qualifying standards for every Track and Field event, compares them to every athlete's current best mark, and tells you in very clear terms whether you are going to states, on the bubble, or need to start running faster.

No guessing. No "I think I'm close." No texting your coach at 11pm asking if your 5:42 is good enough for Class B. The answer is on the page. In color. With a status badge that does not care about your feelings.

How It Works

The MPA publishes two qualifying standards for every event, every class, every gender. The Automatic Standard means you are in. Done. Pack your bag. The Provisional Standard means you might get in if there are open spots after the automatic qualifiers fill the field.

We took those exact numbers and built a tracker around them. Select your gender, your class, and your event. You will see every ranked athlete, their current PR, how far ahead or behind the standard they are, and a status badge that says one of four things:

Auto Qualified means your mark has already beaten the automatic standard. You are going to states. Congratulations. Tell your parents.

Provisional means your mark is between the automatic and provisional lines. You are in the conversation but not guaranteed a spot. Keep competing.

Within Range means you are close. Like, one good race away close. This is the zone where coaches start getting creative with meet schedules.

Work to Do means exactly what it says. The standard is out there waiting for you, but you have not introduced yourself yet.

The Gap Column Is the Whole Point

Every athlete has a "Gap" column that shows exactly how much time or distance separates them from the standard. If you are Auto Qualified, it shows how far ahead you are. If you are not, it shows exactly what you need to close.

A junior running a 5:02 in the 1600 for Class B sees "+2.00 needed" to hit the 5:00.00 provisional standard. That is not abstract. That is two seconds. That is one race where they go out a little harder on the third lap. That is specific, measurable, and exactly the kind of information that makes a difference in a season.

Where to Find It

Track and Field section, under Performance in the navigation. Look for The Cutline with the scissors icon. It is right there between Podium Chasers and Record Hunters because we like to keep all the pressure in one place.

The Standards Are Real

We did not estimate these. We did not guess. We pulled the exact qualifying standards from the Maine Principals Association. Automatic and provisional standards for every event, every class (A, B, and C), boys and girls. If the MPA changes them, we update them.

This Updates After Every Meet

As new results come in throughout the outdoor season, athlete PRs update automatically. An athlete who was "Within Range" on Monday might be "Auto Qualified" by Friday. The page is always current, always honest, and always willing to tell you exactly where you stand.

Coming Soon: The Flex Card

Here is the part we are most excited about. When an athlete hits the automatic standard and officially qualifies for states, they will get a shareable card on The Flex. A custom graphic with their name, school, event, mark, and the standard they beat. Downloadable, shareable, made for social media. Because qualifying for states deserves more than a text message from your coach.

Your kid qualifies for the 800? They get a card. Screenshot it. Post it. Tag the school. Put it on the fridge next to the career progression chart we built last week. We are building a wall of receipts and every athlete who earns it gets a spot on it.

The Season Starts April 16

The first outdoor meet is April 16. By April 17, The Cutline will start telling you who is on pace, who is close, and who needs to find another gear. The MPA set the standards. We just made them impossible to ignore.
